An introduction to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the role of the Office of the Principal Legal Advisor (OPLA) with a focus on OPLA’s Legal Assistant functions. Interns will learn ICE’s mission and the role OPLA plays in accomplishing it. Interns will be introduced to several Legal Assistant duties and responsibilities and will learn the vital role Legal Assistants play at OPLA.
This is a trainee level position that is located in various Enforcement and Removal Operation field offices or facilities. The primary purpose of this position is to provide clerical and administrative support to the Enforcement and Removal Program. The duties require the incumbent to have access to classified files, materials that consist of enforcement of laws and regulations pertaining to detention and removal of aliens.
This internship is located within the Office of Intelligence, Homeland Security Investigations, (HSI) Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) with an emphasis on counterintelligence (CI). This internship is available to those in the Washington, DC commuting area.
Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Criminal Analysts apply a uniform and consistent method of support to criminal investigations to produce timely, comprehensive, and accurate criminal analyses that enable criminal investigators to identify, prioritize, disrupt, and dismantle terrorist, transnational, and other criminal organizations that threaten or seek to exploit the customs and immigration laws of the United States.
Interns will be introduced to the overall Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) mission, components, and programmatic areas; and will learn about HSI immigration/customs authorities and general criminal investigative authorities.
Interns will be introduced to the ICE organization and its structure, mission, vision, and values. Interns will also be introduced to Enforcement and Removal operations and its various functions. Finally, students will learn about the role of Enforcement Removal Assistant for ERO and many duties that fall under the Enforcement Removal Assistant at the Field Office level.
