Telluride Adaptive Sports Program
The SkillBridge position at Telluride Adaptive Sports Program is an apprenticeship position that introduces and trains people in working with nonprofits as well as in adaptive outdoor recreational sports for people with disabilities. We work with people of all ages who have some life altering disability or wound. This position will be designed around what you are interested in and your skills but in general is split into several parts. The one focus will be supporting our adaptive military groups and participants, including helping to plan logistics, outcomes, communication with interested participants, and yourself participate in the activities with them (things like skiing/snowboarding, ice climbing, meals etc in the winter). The other part of the position will be working with non-military specific duties and clients like helping with administrative tasks and assisting in instructing for the general adaptive lessons. We will provide some training but prior experience is preferred. It is a great opportunity to work with a diverse group of people including directly with other military service members, learn about the operations of a small nonprofit, and learn skills in various outdoor sports in a beautiful location. This is a temporary winter only position for the allotted SkillBridge amount of time (up to 180 days) and is molded around a particular person's interests and skill sets.
I would love to start the conversation to see if this is a good fit for you and what you are looking for as well as for our program. The best place to start is our website www.tellurideadaptivesports.org which you can find more about this position found on our Military programs page. Our SkillBridge position is a little different in that it is a seasonally based winter position but nothing generally in April through November, at this time. We also offer training only at the beginning of the season, therefore we prioritize folks who can join us from the start to finish of the season. Currently, due to our size, we offer one position each season. We have filled the position this winter (through March 2024). We are currently accepting inquiries for the following Winter 2024/2025, December through March. Applications typically go out in August and out selection is typically done by September 1.I would like to chat more about what you are looking for.A couple of questions: What is your separation date from the military and projected SkillBridge start date? Can you explain further why you are interested in this position? Also, this position is a combination of work in the office and out in the field for people with disabilities. What is your prior experience in outdoor recreation as well as any experience working with people who have disabilities (children or adults)? Please let me know if you would like to apply and I will be in touch! I look forward to hearing from you,
