Chaplain - Chaplain Service - Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center - Veterans Health Administration
This position is in the Chaplain’s Office at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center in Charleston, South Carolina. The Intern will work as a team member under the direct supervision of the Chief of Chaplains or designee to perform a range of supervised clinical chaplaincy-specific duties. The intern will gain clinical chaplaincy skills useful across the spectrum of inpatient and outpatient care, to include conducting spiritual assessments and providing pastoral visits on the medical/surgical wards, the Intensive Care Unit, Inpatient Mental Health, and in various outpatient clinics. Additionally, the intern will become familiar with electronic healthcare documentation methods/requirements, will learn about serving on various teams and committees, and will work with other chaplains to design spiritual support groups and worship events which meet the needs of the healthcare setting. The ability to function in an ecumenical environment is critical to all aspects of this work.

Nursing Service at the RJH VAMC has experienced a staffing shortage with a service line vacancy rate of 21% over the last three years, inclusive of RNs, LPNs, HCTs and NAs. Retention and recruitment incentives have been implemented to fill various positions across Nursing services to include OR RNs, Acute and Critical Care RNs, LPNs, Surgical Scrub Technicians, and other specialized positions.
