The Patrol Deputy is the front-line representative of the Sheriff’s Office to the general public. They are responsible for responding to calls for service within the county, acting as a criminal activity deterrent by patrolling assigned areas, and enforcing the laws of Taylor County, the state of Texas, and the United States. At times they may be called upon to carry out initial or basic duties of other divisions. Members of other divisions may call upon them to perform preliminary investigations and submit findings for follow-up investigations. In addition to other government, law enforcement and public safety agencies, the Patrol Deputy interacts with all segments of the county population including the mentally ill, individuals with emergencies, and those with problems of a non-emergency nature. The Patrol Deputy deals with individuals who are victims and perpetrators of all types of crimes. They may also be called upon regularly to provide impartial advice or peaceful resolutions to situations, which often are civil in nature. Subject to call-out 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The Corrections Officer reports directly to the Jail Sergeant or Shift Sergeant on duty. The position is responsible for ensuring that all policies and procedures of inmate detention are adhered to. The position is responsible for all needs of inmates. This position is also directly responsible for the safety of the inmates that are under the position's control. This position is also generally responsible for the safety and security of all inmates and co-workers at this facility

Law enforcement dispatchers answer calls for emergency services in a calm manner. The dispatcher must determine quickly the urgency of the request and dispatch officers and other first responders to the scene. Taylor county dispatches for the Sheriff’s Office, Tye Police Department, Merkel Police Department, 15 volunteer fire departments, two Emergency Medical Service companies, and various other state and local agencies as needed. Close contact with dispatchers allows officers to request additional assistance and other emergency personnel. Dispatchers are trained to obtain vital facts from caller and relay that information to responding personnel quickly and professionally.

Under the coordination of the Jail's Head Nurse, this position assists in the provision of health services to jail inmates. Assists in conducting medical assessments of inmates. Assists physician in examining inmates responding to sick call. Addresses medical issues by following nursing protocols and physician orders. Administers medications.
