The Patrol Deputy is the front-line representative of the Sheriff’s Office to the general public. They are responsible for responding to calls for service within the county, acting as a criminal activity deterrent by patrolling assigned areas, and enforcing the laws of Taylor County, the state of Texas, and the United States. At times they may be called upon to carry out initial or basic duties of other divisions. Members of other divisions may call upon them to perform preliminary investigations and submit findings for follow-up investigations. In addition to other government, law enforcement and public safety agencies, the Patrol Deputy interacts with all segments of the county population including the mentally ill, individuals with emergencies, and those with problems of a non-emergency nature. The Patrol Deputy deals with individuals who are victims and perpetrators of all types of crimes. They may also be called upon regularly to provide impartial advice or peaceful resolutions to situations, which often are civil in nature. Subject to call-out 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
