Commercial Fishing Captains are the cornerstone to the commercial fishing fleet. As a Commercial Fishing Captain Apprentice you will learn the necessary skills to operate a 32 foot commercial salmon gillnetter while managing a 4-person crew and adhering to commercial processing rules and regulations. Daily operations while on the commercial fishing grounds include setting, hauling and clearing 150 fathoms of gillnet on a constant rotation, often working 12-18 hours a day. Crewmen are responsible for safe operations of hydraulics and net management while actively harvesting wild salmon. Additionally, crewmen are responsible for safe and professional handling, storage, loading and offloading of salmon while aboard the commercial fishing vessel.
