Health First Security SkillBridge Program is observational and instructional in nature and will be under direct supervision in a controlled environment. They will shadow and observe under direct supervision and will also include classroom-based instruction and scenario simulations.Participants will not be involved in any weapons training, use of force activities, fire response, or active law enforcement operations.Job Description of Security Officer:The Security Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, associates, and property through proactive patrol, emergency response, and professional engagement. This role conducts internal and external mobile patrols of assigned facilities, including high-risk areas such as the Emergency Department, to deter criminal activity, identify safety hazards, and respond to incidents. They respond to behavioral and medical emergencies, including combative or aggressive individuals, utilizing verbal de-escalation techniques and approved crisis intervention methods. Responsibilities also include monitoring entrances and exits, enforcing access control procedures, conducting foot and vehicle patrols, operating surveillance and communication systems, and coordinating with law enforcement or fire personnel when necessary. Officers provide safety escorts, conduct patient watches, assist with transports (including to the morgue), and ensure compliance with hospital policies and post orders.This position requires strong situational awareness, sound judgment, effective communication skills, and the physical ability to work in a high-stress, fast-paced healthcare environment. Officers must maintain required certifications (CPR/AED) and complete crisis prevention training, demonstrating professionalism, resilience, and a commitment to safety at all times.
