Candidates for this and every DoD SkillBridge internship opportunity with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) are able to intern for 180, 120, and 90 days and MUST be at least 11 MONTHS away from (outside of) separation. Why 11 months? We are able to host SkillBridge interns for their final 180, 120, and/or 90 days on active-duty depending on the individual service-member’s situation. We use the time prior to their finite internship dates to complete our required HR actions to include getting them in front of hiring managers, having interviews conducted, selection decisions being made, “Qualifications Reviews” successfully completed on their resumes clearly demonstrating that they have the required experience, etc. for the positions for which they are being considered, along with a 3 to 5 month (on average) full CBP Background Investigation (BI) that MUST be completed prior to internship start dates.MAJOR DUTIES This position requires experience in the application of advanced data science techniques including data extraction, transformation, cleaning, modeling, visualization and statistical modeling techniques, and artificial intelligence (AI) to process and extract insights from structured and unstructured data and developing guidance for solutions to a variety of complex challenges to AMO's Safey Management System and Safety and Risk Management programs that have a significant impact on AMO decisions.The incumbent is responsible for gathering, processing, and converting raw and unstructured data from a variety of systems and databases into clean, organized information. Establishes procedures for data storage and retrieval along with systems for data classification and coding. Follows and advises on proper data governance techniques and policies pertaining to their projects. Performs quantitative and qualitative analysis and data quality assurance using statistical software and computer programs (e.g., R, Python). Uses various data sources to extract new information and conveys that information in a manner that is appropriate to the technical knowledge of the audience. Solves statistical problems that occur in data collection and summarization processes. Combines, analyzes, and interprets large and complex data sets to develop data-driven organizational solutions. Conducts exploratory analysis using visualization and statistical modeling techniques. Prepares reports using visualization and statistical modeling techniques, programming, and data visualization skills to present findings from partner organizations within AMO. This includes in-depth knowledge of MS Office Suite and capability to utilize programs to create, edit, and publish presentation materials to high level executives. Mastery knowledge of advanced concepts of data science including data extraction, transformation, cleaning, modeling, visualization and statistical modeling techniques, sufficient to serve as a senior advisor and consultant on data analysis in AMO. Strong ability to apply advanced statistical knowledge to understand significance of analyses’ results and use findings to resolve problems or inefficiencies. Ability to conduct regression analysis and other statistical analysis, modeling, visualization and statistical modeling techniques, data extraction, mathematical programming, Natural Language Processing, coding, and data visualization. Ability to plan, organize and direct team-task efforts across organizational lines, including the ability to monitor progress to ensure that realistic objectives and milestones are established, to clearly assign responsibilities, and to get mission requirements accomplished in a timely manner.
