This training opportunity includes a six week Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) class directly followed by a twenty week fire academy. Upon successful completion of the program, candidates will receive their National EMT, Colorado EMT, CPR for the professional rescuer, Firefighter 1, Hazardous Materials, Driver Operator certifications, and a full time job as a firefighter/EMT for the Grand Junction Fire Department.
Job description:
Firefighter/EMT's respond to emergency and non-emergency calls, working with their assigned station crew to provide basic or advanced life support care to patients, and performing fire prevention, fire suppression, and emergency rescue operations. The Grand Junction Fire Department has a 48 on shift, 96 off shift work schedule.
Upon successful completion of the hiring process, candidates are eligible to use post 9/11 GI Bill benefits of up to $1,800 /month housing allowance.

In order to be eligible for this program, candidates have to apply to the Grand Junction Fire Department and pass both phase 1 and 2. Phase 1 includes CPAT physical fitness test, interview panel, suitability testing, and background check. Phase 2 includes an executive interview, physical, drug screening, and psychological testing.
