Overview of the ProgramThe purpose of this internship is to provide interns with the knowledge, skills and abilities required to transition to full time employment as a WM Renewable Natural Gas Plant Manager. The incumbent for this position should expect to be a hands-on technician in addition to management responsibilities. Interns will receive a combination of hands on, classroom style and computer-based training which will enable them to manage the Landfill Gas to Renewable Natural Gas "RNG" Facility and to maximize production, while ensuring safe work practices, environmental compliance, timely maintenance, compliance with contracts, and coordination with the landfill management and operations. This role acts as a plant owner and is available whenever necessary to meet the objectives of the role and the needs of the facility. An RNG Facility takes landfill gas and converts it to a Natural Gas Quality that is injected into the pipeline for household and commercial use. The RNG Plant Manager will be required to operate and maintain equipment such as specialty gas processing equipment, gas compressors, and H2S removal systems, Nitrogen Removal Unit, and Pressure Swing Absorber. (Note: The objective of the program is to provide full time employment to all interns who meet training objectives and receive positive performance appraisals. However, an offer of full-time employment is not guaranteed.)
Training SpecificsOn Job Training: The training program is designed to provide interns with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to transition into full time employment with WM as a Renewable Natural Gas Plant Manager. Interns will receive a combination of hands-on, on-site training as well as classroom style and computer-based training. Interns who demonstrate satisfactory completion of training objectives and receive positive performance reviews can expect to be offered full-time employment at one of WM’s RNG facilities in the role of Plant Manager. Training objectives include: • Onboarding Activities and New Employee Training (32 hours)• Learn how to operate advanced instrumentation and process control systems. (90 hours)• Learn how to perform intermediate to advanced level Instrument and Control repair, maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting. (90 Hours)• Learn how to troubleshoot and perform minor repairs on electrical systems (DC and AC low voltage) (90 Hours) • Learn how to Inspect plant machinery and equipment. Repairs, maintains, and services all equipment in accordance with the facility Standard Operating Procedures, equipment maintenance manuals, and WMRE policies and training. (90 hours)• Learn how to maintain the facility spare inventory and provides a written inventory count twice annually. (90 hours)• Learn how to implement WM and WMRE safety policies and practices for all work activities, and ensure these practices are followed by other staff, vendors, contractors, and visitors. (90 hours)• Complete all mandatory training activities for both safety and operational training as assigned by supervisor and in accordance with strict requirements for safety and environmental compliance along with standard operating procedures. (90 Hours)• Employment Skills Professional Development Seminars (18 Hours)Professional Development: To enable all candidates to have long term, successful post-military careers, RecruitMilitary provides employment skill training and professional development coaching for all participating interns. This portion of the program includes participation in professional development seminars, close work with assigned mentors and practical applications to ensure all interns are armed with the requisite knowledge skills and abilities to develop and manage a successful civilian career after military service. Developmental topics include: • Creating resumes targeted to specific opportunities in specific fields of employment.• Leveraging social media to effectively network in the digital environment for career success.• Development of a coherent personal brand to effectively market the intern to potential employers.• Use of digital and online tools for targeted job searches and networking.• Development of skills necessary to secure, prepare for and succeed at job interviews and subsequent salary negotiations.Training Period: The training program is based upon a 120-day training model. Service members with less than 120 days available may be considered for participation provided they have a minimum of 90 days availability. Programs may be customized in length for high potential candidates.
