Senior Mechanical / CAD Engineering Fellow - This position will participate in a structured training program focused on the mechanical design and development of advanced battery energy storage systems. Through mentorship and hands-on experience, the fellow will support the design of battery cells, modules, enclosures, and integrated energy storage systems while gaining exposure to product development, prototyping, manufacturing, and certification processes within an innovative energy technology company.
Job description:
Training ObjectivesParticipants will gain practical experience in:• Mechanical design and engineering processes for energy storage products• 3D CAD modeling and technical drawing development• Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles• Prototype development, testing, and iterative design processes• Mechanical integration of battery cells, modules, and enclosures• Cross-functional engineering collaboration and product development lifecycle management• Product certification considerations for commercial and defense energy systemsDuties and Learning ActivitiesUnder the supervision of company engineering leadership, the fellow will:• Develop and modify 3D CAD models, assemblies, and detailed engineering drawings for battery cells, modules, enclosures, and complete energy storage systems.• Participate in design reviews and engineering trade studies to evaluate mechanical design options and optimize system performance.• Support Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) activities to improve manufacturability, reliability, and cost effectiveness.• Assist in prototype fabrication, assembly, testing, and validation activities.• Collaborate with electrical, systems, and compliance engineers to ensure integrated product designs meet technical and regulatory requirements.• Participate in thermal management, packaging, and enclosure design activities for battery systems operating in demanding environments.• Assist in developing and maintaining engineering documentation, bills of materials (BOMs), and configuration management records.• Support product certification efforts by incorporating design requirements related to applicable commercial, military, and safety standards.• Participate in root cause analysis, design improvements, and continuous product optimization initiatives.• Gain exposure to the complete product development lifecycle, from concept development through prototype, testing, certification, and commercialization.
