This position aims to provide the intern with a broad exposure to the Mississippi State University Office of Research and Economic Development (ORED) and the operations of the Mississippi Cyber Initiative. The intern will have opportunities to participate in MCI efforts with the cybersecurity training environments, digital forensics department, and ORED's university research centers. The intern will gain an understanding of cybersecurity training platforms, a multi-disciplinary approach to project development activities, and collaboration opportunities with the associated MCI partnerships.The intern will be embedded with the MCI Cyber Center director and have the opportunity to be exposed to and contribute to the full spectrum of operations and strategic planning efforts. This will allow the intern to explore and be evaluated for job opportunities upon completion of the internship.
Job description:
The MCI Technical Manager-Cyber Center Director will establish a synergistic interaction between the MCI-partnered agencies and intern. They will be integrated into the facility's research operations in domain areas related to their expertise. The Director will identify priorities for growth, outline technical strategies, and oversee immersion to the highly motivated staff of the MS Cyber Center. The MCI Cyber Center is a hub for digital forensics and cybersecurity initial/advanced skills learning. In addressing the state's needs, two significant efforts lead the way to solving partnered agencies' problems. The Cyber Ecosystem developed to support cyber training in a virtualized environment provides training spaces, virtual arenas, assessment modules, practice ranges, and cyber battlefields modeled from small businesses, academic institutions, and industry networks. The Digital Forensics Lab supports the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations and 35 other law enforcement agencies with capabilities to solve cyber-related crimes.
This opportunity is for an in-person position at the Mississippi State University run MCI Mississippi Cyber Center on the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Harrison County Campus. The closest military installations are Keesler Air Force Base and Naval Construction Battalion Center Gulfport, both approximately 15-minute drives. Intern must possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a cyber-related study area. Preference will be given to degrees and backgrounds that align with one of the MCI focus areas. Intern must be able to pass a background check.
