Cemetery Directors and Assistant Directors are the frontline leaders in the National Cemetery Administration (NCA). They play a critical role in the delivery of burial benefits and memorial programs services within NCA. They oversee the day-to-day operations of a national cemetery and are responsible for the operation and maintenance of national cemeteries as national shrines as well as the interment and memorialization of the Nation’s Veterans, service members and eligible family members. All new NCA Cemetery Directors and Assistant Directors participate in a tailored training program (Cemetery Director Certification Program) whose curriculum focuses on leadership, facility management and interment operations to prepare employees in these critical leadership positions with the necessary knowledge and skills to be successful and advance within NCA.
The Cemetery Director and Cemetery Assistant Director are responsible for developing and implementing local administrative, financial, and other resources, human capital, and management policies. The Cemetery Director and Cemetery Assistant Director oversee the planning, programming, coordinating, and directing the administration and operation of the National Cemetery.
