This is a developmental opportunity for active-duty military personnel who will be separating from the military. The SkillBridge Internship Program is designed to provide on-the-job training and experience in the civilian sector for SkillBridge applicants. This is a program that matches civilian opportunities to a military member's job training and work experience at the end of their military duty. This position will be housed in various departments within Spokane County government and incumbents will perform and take responsibility for various technical and/or clerical duties, using various computer programs and/or operating technical equipment. Incumbents will also perform general responsibilities inherent to properly maintaining the office of the division where assigned, including handling receptionist duties, including multi-line phones and direct contact with the general public.
Job description:
This developmental internship is designed for active‑duty military personnel preparing to separate from service and transition into civilian employment. Through the Department of Defense SkillBridge Program, interns receive hands‑on training and real‑world experience that aligns civilian career opportunities with the military member’s existing skills and work history.Interns will be placed in various Spokane County government departments, where they will perform a wide range of technical and clerical duties. Responsibilities may include operating computer programs and technical equipment, supporting office functions, and contributing to the daily operations of the assigned division. Interns will also assist with general office management tasks such as receptionist duties, handling multi‑line phone systems, and interacting directly with members of the public. This role provides meaningful exposure to civilian administrative operations while supporting the mission and workflow of multiple County departments.

Eligibility factors:
All Services
• Active‑duty U.S. military member currently serving• Command approval to participate in the DoD SkillBridge Program• Within final 180 days of military service at the start of the internship• In good standing with their military branch• Ability to commit to the full program schedule (in your case, 13 weeks)• Meets minimum administrative/technical skills required for placement (you can specify these if needed)• Must meet Spokane County onboarding requirements (such as background check, if applicable)Optional additions depending on your internal expectations:• Strong verbal and written communication skills• Ability to work with the public in person and via phone• Familiarity with basic office software• Interest in administrative, clerical, or customer‑service roles
