Summary description:
Our SkillBridge Program is modeled to prepare applicants for employment in the 0080 Security Specialist core competencies of Information, Personnel, Industrial, Physical, and Operations Security, commonly referred to as Information Protection (IP). We use Center for Development of Security Excellence, Security Professional Education Development (SPeD), as a tool to assist applicants achieve at least one professional certification while gaining hands-on experience with one of AFLCMC's Security Teams. Toward the end of the program, we establish a network of contacts with the applicant to familiarize them with potential employers and employment missions. When complete, the applicant will be able to perform general security manager duties or more specialized IP functions with the DoD or Industry Partners.
Job description:
As a Security Specialist, you play a crucial role in the planning and integration of all security disciplines and other defensive methods into the acquisition process to protect weapons systems and related sensitive technology, technical information and support systems from foreign intelligence collection, unauthorized disclosure, sabotage, theft, or damage throughout a system's life cycle. Your primary responsibilities include developing and implementing security policies, conducting risk assessments, and ensuring compliance with federal regulations and DoD directives for the protection of classified national security information. You must have a strong understanding of both acquisition and security policy and processes. You'll support Program Managers and Chief Engineers in identifying and integrating enhanced security measures for essential technology elements and enabling technology across the life cycle. You'll work closely with various teams and other acquisition functional areas to identify vulnerabilities, recommending and applying security measures to mitigate risks. You'll also be involved in training personnel on security protocols and best practices, fostering a culture of security awareness within the organization. A strong understanding of security best practices for Information, Personnel, Operations, and Industrial Security programs, International Programs Security, and Scientific and Technical Information processes is essential. You'll need to stay updated on evolving threats and trends in acquisition security to effectively protect against potential breaches. This role requires analytical thinking, attention to detail, and strong communication skills, as you'll often need to convey complex security concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Overall, being a Security Specialist is both challenging and rewarding. You'll contribute to national security efforts while ensuring that sensitive information remains protected against unauthorized access and emerging threats.
AFLCMC is a military organization. We accept military applicants from all services who are within 180 days from ETS (date of retirement or date of separation) and have their Commander's approval to participate. No cost to participate.
