Summary description:
The SkillBridge Intern will perform technical work in support of professional or technical employees engaged in hydrologic data collection activities. While on the internship, the participant will receive on-the-job training and gain practical knowledge of the methods, procedures, and instrumentation used in hydrologic studies. Hydrologic Technicians gather information on the quantity, quality, availability, movements, and distribution of surface water. They also evaluate water samples and data and carry out related duties that support the professional work in Hydrology.
Job description:
Performs measurements of water-level, stage, and discharge. Plots discharge measurements and estimates short periods of missing records. Verifies the accuracy of data. Prepares samples for lab analyses. Performs installation, maintenance, servicing, and troubleshooting of sensing, recording, and communications equipment and instrumentation.
The Oklahoma-Texas Water Science Center main office is located in Austin, TX. We have branch offices in Oklahoma, North Texas, South Texas, Central Texas, and Gulf Coast branch offices, and field offices. Opportunities are available in Forth Worth, Houston, Austin, and San Angelo.

The work requires considerable dexterity, agility, and strenuous physical exertion while in the field, such as climbing and/or working from ladders, work in areas where footing is treacherous such as slippery or icy riverbanks, steep rocky terrain, cableways, or fast-moving water; lifting heavy objects weighing 23 kilograms (50 pounds) or more or crouching or crawling in restricted areas.
