Job description:
DECKHAND - As a Deckhand, Handles lines in retrieving debris and in making and breaking tows and moorings to ensure that boats, barges, and other plantequipment are secured. Splices, renews, and cares for lines and fenders, sets gang planks, attaches and removes hoisting and hooklines, performs maintenance repairs, general housekeeping, and related duties. Operates deck equipment such as power winches, hydraulic lifts and booms, chainsaws, generators, and water pumps. Checks andfills oil and greases hydraulic lifts, power generators, and engines, etc. Assists in fueling operations by checking fuel levels, handlingfuel hoses, and attachments to fill fuel tanks. Makes repairs to boat and other equipment by performing basic tasks such as generalmaintenance repairs, getting tools and supplies, carrying and lifting materials, etc. Assists with more complex repairs under thedirection of a higher-level employee. Operates various vehicles up to 7500 lbs. GVW. The vehicles are primarily used to run errands or make deliveries of supplies,parts, etc. Drives primarily during daylight hours in fair and inclement weather conditions on regularly traveled roadways and/orgravel or dirt roads as well public highways. Operates motorboats up to 26 feet in length on rivers and open waters used as mode of travel and transports passengers or delivers items to specified locations.
