The Goffstown Fire Department is made up of 24 full-time firefighter/EMTs that answer approximately 2,900 calls for service annually out of two staffed fire stations. The Department provides fire, rescue, and emergency medical services including ambulance transportation for the Town of nearly 19,000 residents. Full-time staff work 24 hrs. on with 72 hrs. off. Interns work Monday through Friday from 0800-1600hrs when not reassigned to training or classes. Interns will work alongside firefighter/EMTs answering calls for service, attend shift training, department classes, and are able to attend outside training or classes.

Job Summary / Nature of Work: Performs responsible work as aFirefighter/AEMT for the Town; engaged in fire suppression, fire prevention and emergency medical services. Responds to emergency medical calls and renders assistance. Protects and saves life and property through effective rescue and firefighting work and performs related fire prevention, equipment and facility maintenance, housekeeping functions, as assigned, and performs other duties as directed. Works under the general supervision of the Lieutenant, who outlines broad areas of responsibility. Works under the direct supervision of a Department Officer who usually is present at all fire scenes and issues instructions concerning methods of firefighting and appropriate courses of action. The Firefighter is required to use initiative and judgment in carrying out assignments particularly in the absence of an Officer.
