Job description:
Michigan offers a dual license for funeral director and embalmer. A funeral director oversees and coordinates the various aspects of mortuary services. Their primary role is to assist and support grieving families in making funeral arrangements and ensuring that the wishes of the deceased and their family are respected. Funeral directors are responsible for managing the logistical and administrative aspects of the funeral process.Funeral directors work closely with the family to plan and organize funeral services according to their cultural, religious, and personal preferences. They guide families through the selection of caskets, urns, burial plots, or cremation services. They also coordinate with cemetery or crematory personnel, arrange transportation of the deceased, and assist with necessary legal documentation, such as death certificates and permits. Additionally, funeral directors may offer grief counseling services, help families with obituary notices, and provide assistance in handling insurance claims or veterans' benefits related to the funeral.An embalmer specializes in the preservation and preparation of deceased bodies. The primary objective of an embalmer is to temporarily delay the decomposition process and restore a more natural and lifelike appearance to the deceased. This involves the use of embalming fluids and techniques to disinfect, sanitize, and preserve the body, as well as cosmetic procedures to enhance the deceased's appearance for viewing by family and friends.As a licensed funeral director and embalmer, the Service member will be able to meet the expectations of industry standards.
