Job description:
Summary Sets up and operates numerical control machine to cut, shape, or form metal workpieces to specifications by performing the following duties. Essential duties, responsibilities and authorization for the following: Other duties may be assigned. Reviews setup sheet and specifications to determine setup procedure, machining sequence, and dimensions of finished workpiece. Prior to machine startup, check coolant and way lube levels, make additions as necessary. Notify your supervisor when usage becomes abnormal. Attaches fixture to machine bed and positions and secures workpiece in fixture according to setup instructions. Assembles cutting tools in toolholders and positions toolholders in machine spindles as specified or inserts cutting tools in specified machine magazine. Loads control media in machine control console or enters commands to retrieve preprogrammed machine instructions from data base. Manipulates controls and enters commands to index cutting tool to specified set point and to start machine. Observes and listens to machine operation to detect malfunctions such as worn or damaged cutting tools. Notify supervisor of quantity discrepancies, product suspect of nonconformance or fixtures/equipment in need of repair or replacement. Adjusts machine feed and speed and changes cutters to machine parts according to specifications when automatic programming is faulty or machine malfunctions. Machines materials other than metal such as composites, plastic and rubber. Inspect and remove foreign objects and debris found during manufacturing process of product. Ensure product is properly identified (part no., quantity, etc).Ensure documentation is maintained as required by the respective customer's requirements. Return fixtures, tools, or equipment back to their normal location, after machine teardown. Move or relocate product to the Quality Assurance area or next process per the manufacturing plan. Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly work environment. Ensure tools and equipment used for recording measurements are calibrated and maintained. Ensure hazardous materials and liquids have proper identification, are stored in a safe environment and handled with care. Observe safety rules and regulations and wear the required safety equipment. Support the Quality Management System to assure compliance to quality, industrial and government standards and regulations. Education and/or Experience High School Diploma or general education degree (GED); Minimum 3 years related experience and/or training. Mazatrol and Mastercam programming experience a plus. High School Diploma or general education degree (GED); or 6 to 12 months related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
