Program learning opportunities develop technical, professional knowledge and skills required for job acquisition, retention, and advancement. The program emphasizes welding theory and practical application necessary for successful employment. Program graduates have the qualifications of a welding and joining technician, are prepared to take industry qualification tests, and will receive three (3) Technical Certificates of Credit as follows - Basic Shielded Metal Arc Welder; Gas Metal Arc Welder; and Gas Tungsten Arc Welder, earning 24 college credits.
Welders fabricate and assemble metal structures and equipment through the use of welders, cutters, shapers and measuring tools. Welders produce metal products according to customer or employer specifications. Welders set up, operate and maintain welding equipment. Welders manage the machines that manufacture and repair metal structures, tools, and equipment. These skilled professionals work in a variety of industries including automotive, construction, and manufacturing. Other duties include planning layouts and measurements and testing welded surfaces.
