The apprentice will assist with the installation and service of low-voltage systems, including access control, IP video surveillance, intrusion detection, intercom systems, network cabling, and related security infrastructure.This is more than just an internship. Skilled trades continue to be in demand across construction, commercial facilities, healthcare, government, industrial, and technology-driven environments. Low-voltage technicians play a critical role in securing buildings, supporting network-connected systems, and installing the infrastructure businesses depend on every day.For service members transitioning from the military, this program can provide a valuable head start toward a civilian trade career. In Washington State, low-voltage work may align with the path toward the 06 Limited Energy electrical specialty license. Apprentices can begin gaining exposure to the type of field work, documentation, installation practices, safety standards, and technical skills that support future licensing and long-term career growth.The apprentice will gain experience reading drawings, pulling cable, mounting devices, terminating wiring, labeling equipment, testing systems, documenting work, and supporting project closeout activities. The role requires strong attention to detail, a willingness to learn, and the ability to work safely in active construction, commercial, government, healthcare, and industrial environments.This position is ideal for a transitioning service member who wants to turn military discipline, reliability, problem-solving, and teamwork into a marketable civilian skill set. No prior low-voltage experience is required, but a strong work ethic, positive attitude, and desire to learn are essential.Key ResponsibilitiesAssist with the installation of low-voltage security systems, including cameras, card readers, door contacts, motion detectors, keypads, intercoms, and control panels.Pull, route, dress, label, and terminate low-voltage cable in accordance with project requirements, industry standards, and jobsite expectations.Support access control installations, including card readers, request-to-exit devices, door contacts, power supplies, locking hardware connections, and related field devices.Assist with IP camera installation, including mounting, aiming, focusing, labeling, and basic connectivity testing.Help install and support intrusion detection components such as motion sensors, glass-break detectors, door contacts, alarm panels, and keypads.Learn to read and interpret project drawings, floor plans, device schedules, cable paths, installation notes, and as-built documentation.Support structured cabling and network-related infrastructure used for security, video, access control, and building technology systems.Maintain clean and organized work areas, tools, ladders, materials, and company vehicles.Follow safety procedures and jobsite requirements while working around ladders, lifts, ceilings, mechanical rooms, electrical rooms, and active construction areas.Assist technicians with troubleshooting basic wiring, device connectivity, power, network, and installation issues.Support project documentation, including device labeling, cable labeling, test results, photos, field notes, and punch-list items.Communicate professionally with technicians, project managers, customers, general contractors, and other trades.Participate in hands-on training and mentorship designed to build technical confidence and prepare for long-term employment in the low-voltage industry.Career Development OpportunityThis SkillBridge opportunity is designed to help transitioning service members bridge the gap between military service and a civilian skilled-trade career.
