DOD SkillBridge Recruiting Internship: Job DescriptionSteris: Equipment Service Installer InternThe incumbent for this position should expect to be a hands-on installer that builds trust and effective relationships with our customers. Interns will receive a combination of hands-on, classroom-style and computer-based training, which will enable them to perform installations and start-up of autoclaves as well as exposure and experience with installations across product lines. This role is performed in a highly regulated work environment requiring the ability to meet Customer credentialing and STERIS requirements, safe work practices, and adherence to STERIS and Customer standards. This role is a field-based service provider expected to meet the performance expectations of the role in providing exceptional service to our Customers. STERIS manufacturers and services critical infection protection equipment, such as autoclaves, which are critical to the delivery of patient care and timely, quality procedures. (Note: The objective of the program is to provide full time employment to all interns who meet training objectives and receive positive performance appraisals. However, an offer of full-time employment is not guaranteed.)
Job description:
Electronic Control Technician Key Responsibilities • Inspect, test, troubleshoot, repair, install, and maintain electrical equipment including but not limited to: motors (all types), starters, breakers, transformers, isolation switches, relays, fuses, resistors, air conditioning, valves, AC Drives, DC Drives, electrical cable, fiber optic cable, coaxial cable, conduit, receptacles, PLCs, heaters, control panels, lights & lighting panels, distributive controls, UPS, fire & emergency alarms, disposal of bulbs and other hazardous material. • Inspect, test, troubleshoot, repair, install, calibrate, and maintain instrumentation equipment including but not limited to transmitters (all types), valves, I/P, positioners, actuators, dampers, flow meters, and level sensors.• Complete and prioritize multiple work orders, in support of controls systems, motors, mechanical equipment, PLC programing, etc. AB Logix and Siemens S7 platform including integrated motion is highly desirable. • Work to effectively troubleshoot technical issues both related to maintenance and in emergency situations; Troubleshooting electrical, motor and control problems. This includes determining if a motor or electrical system, is functioning properly and is configured properly. • If there is a problem, determine the proper course of action and safely implement it. Solutions may include taking voltage and amp readings, tracing wiring, evaluating relays, testing motors, evaluating health of wiring, checking breakers and fuses, evaluating sensors and determining the health of overall systems and equipment. • Discuss and explain technical issues in a business environment, act professionally during times of equipment breakdown. • Utilize MS Windows, Industrial Software and CMMS (EAM) on a daily basis. • Assist maintenance mechanics on shift as needed. Including the performance of mechanical repairs when appropriate. • In accordance with written and oral instructions, ensure that the facility and the associated equipment operates safely, properly and efficiently. Ensure compliance with the Controls Change Management System where non-emergency changes are approved and documented prior to the change being made.

Skills, Requirements, & Qualifications • High School diploma and 5 years’ experience including related installation, mechanical, construction experience. College degree or vocational certifications including military training programs are considered towards experience requirement. Ability to meet regular travel requirements, including overnight travel and weekend, evening scheduling as needed• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including daily Customer facing communications• Ability to build strong internal and Customer relationships and conflict resolution skills• Basic computer skills including MS windows/email, navigation, mobile app and proprietary business systems. Adept in utilizing multiple systems to perform daily work and learning new technology. • Effective written and verbal communication skills. • Ability to meet physical requirements of role, including passing result on PCE (physical competency evaluation) • Must be available to travel and attend 3 week (continuous) technical training program during internship period in our Technical Training Center located in Mentor, OH. Training is normally scheduled within the first month of the internship program in most cases. Schedule will be maximum of 40 hours of week.• All travel and training expense paid by STERIS per policy and practice (transportation, hotel, meals)• Valid driver’s license and ability to perform driving requirements are an essential job skill. Must meet all required background and physical assessment elements (Physical Capabilities Evaluation) to obtain & maintain vendor credentialing requirements.
