The SkillBridge Military Fellowship will prepare participants to be considered for a Fleet Technician role with Walmart upon completion of the program.This is a temporary SkillBridge training opportunity not to exceed 180 days, with duration aligned to the Service member's approved SkillBridge window. The current program structure is a 12-week fellowship consisting of structured learning, job shadowing, mentorship, and supervised on-the-job training in a Walmart fleet maintenance environment.Qualified candidates may be interviewed and matched to specific fellowship opportunities and locations based on business requirements, candidate qualifications, technical experience, and location availability.The objective of the program is to provide quality skill development to all participants. While job opportunities may be available after program completion, an offer of full-time employment is not guaranteed.
Job description:
Participants will train as Fleet Technicians supporting Walmart transportation and fleet maintenance operations. This pathway is designed for transitioning Service members interested in vehicle maintenance, diesel maintenance, trailer maintenance, preventive maintenance, diagnostics, troubleshooting, repair, transportation operations, and related technical fields.Fleet Technicians support the safety, reliability, and readiness of Walmart fleet assets. This may include tractors, trailers, refrigeration units, material handling equipment, shop tools, diagnostic systems, shop safety procedures, preventive maintenance routines, inspections, and repair documentation.Working under the guidance of experienced fleet maintenance leaders and technicians, participants will learn how fleet maintenance teams inspect equipment, diagnose issues, complete preventive maintenance, support repair activity, document work, follow shop safety expectations, and help reduce downtime for transportation operations.Training may include exposure to preventive maintenance, tractor and trailer inspection practices, basic diesel systems, braking systems, electrical systems, tires and wheels, fluids, filters, shop tools, diagnostic equipment, work order systems, parts processes, safety standards, and maintenance documentation.All primary responsibilities will be assisted or performed under the direct supervision of an experienced technician or fleet maintenance leader.Over the course of the SkillBridge experience, participants will have the opportunity to:• Translate military vehicle maintenance, diesel, aviation, mechanical, electrical, logistics, or transportation experience into civilian fleet maintenance skills.• Build role-specific technical capability through training, mentorship, and on-the-job learning.• Gain exposure to Walmart's fleet maintenance standards, shop safety expectations, systems, tools, and processes.• Develop a professional network and increase readiness for post-separation employment.
Walmart Inc. is an authorized Department of Defense SkillBridge industry partner supporting transitioning Service members as they prepare to move into the civilian workforce.This SkillBridge opportunity is designed for Service members interested in a career as a Fleet Technician within Walmart transportation or fleet maintenance operations. Participants will gain exposure to Walmart's fleet maintenance environment, shop safety expectations, tools, processes, equipment, work order systems, preventive maintenance routines, inspection practices, and troubleshooting methods through structured learning and hands-on field training.Candidates may be responsible for lodging and travel costs depending on assigned training location, business requirements, and program structure.

Preferred qualifications: Fleet Technician candidates should have experience or training in vehicle maintenance, diesel maintenance, tractor or trailer maintenance, mechanical systems, electrical systems, diagnostics, troubleshooting, equipment operation, shop safety, preventive maintenance, or a related technical field.Active-Duty Service members of any rank, enlisted or officer, may apply for entry- to mid-level opportunities. Senior-level consideration may be available based on applicable industry experience, certifications, and transferable military background.Participation requires command approval and adherence to all DoD SkillBridge guidelines. Candidates must be eligible to participate within their approved SkillBridge window.Participants are not eligible for compensation from Walmart while on active duty and will continue to receive military pay, allowances, and benefits from the U.S. Government during the SkillBridge period.
