Job DescriptionThe Rigging Engineer reports to the Maintenance Programs Manager and is responsible for the engineering, planning, and oversight of complex lifting, hoisting, and rigging operations to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient material handling activities. This role provides technical authority for lift planning, rigging design, load path analysis, and compliance with applicable codes, standards, and site procedures. The Rigging Engineer works closely with operations, construction, maintenance, safety, and subcontractors to support routine, critical, and engineered lifts.
Job description:
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES/TASKSEngineering Support:Develop and review engineered lift plans, including critical, heavy, and complex liftsPerform load calculations, center-of-gravity determinations, and stability analysesDesign and verify rigging configurations, including slings, spreader bars, lifting beams, shackles, and specialty devicesEvaluate crane configurations, capacities, and load charts for mobile, tower, gantry, and overhead cranesConduct load path analysis and identify structural or operational constraintsField & Execution Support:Participate in field walkdowns, lift planning meetings, and pre-job briefingsObserve and support execution of routine and engineered liftsAssist with verification of rigging equipment, lift setup, and load pathsSupport coordination between engineering, operations, construction, and safety teamsSafety & Compliance:Ensure lifting operations comply with applicable standards (ASME, OSHA, DOE, site-specific requirements)Participate in hazard analyses, lift briefings, and pre-job walkdownsProvide technical input for Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs)Support incident investigations and corrective action development related to lifting eventsDocumentation & Program Support:Maintain lift plan files, calculations, and engineering recordsSupport updates to hoisting and rigging procedures, standards, and templatesAssist with data collection for lessons learned and continuous improvementExecution Support:Support construction, maintenance, and operations teams during lift executionProvide field oversight for high-risk or first-of-a-kind liftsReview subcontractor lift plans and rigging submittalsCoordinate with crane operators, riggers, supervisors, and safety professionals

Preferred Qualifications & Experience:Experience in Department of Energy (DOE), nuclear, refinery, heavy industrial, or EPC environmentsFamiliarity with critical lift programs and high-consequence operationsExperience using engineering calculation tools and 3-D CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and Autodesk Inventor)
