This position aims to provide the intern with a broad exposure to the University of AlaskaFairbanks (UAF) Alaska Center for Energy and Power (ACEP) research programs, with anemphasis on the overlap between energy and cyber domains, with a focus on power systemsand cyber-physical systems to support the management of distributed energy resources. Theintern will have opportunities to participate in in-person laboratory and fieldwork, as well asonline work, to learn new skills for a position as an IT/OT systems and networking engineer.The intern will be a member of the ACEP CyberPod team and will collaborate with researchfaculty and staff from the ACEP Research Technology Infrastructure (RTI) and Power SystemsIntegration (PSI) teams. This will allow the intern to explore and be evaluated for jobopportunities upon completion of the internship.
Job description:
The intern (Research Assistant) will join the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) Alaska Centerfor Energy and Power (ACEP) team. During the internship, the mentor will identify growthpriorities, outline technical strategies, and oversee immersion in cyberphysical systems forapplied energy research projects. The intern will be embedded within the ACEP CyberPod teamand will collaborate with the ACEP Research Technology Infrastructure (RTI) team and the ACEPPower Systems Integration (PSI) research team on efforts to build up the ACEP CAMIO lab(Cyberphysical Advanced Metering Infrastructure for IT-OT) capacity to offer an operationalproxy environment for research development and testing of new technologies and explorationsinto modernizing and securing legacy IT systems using Zero Trust (ZT) and Zero Trust NetworkArchitecture (ZTNA) approaches.
