Week 16: Final Assessment, Certification, and Career Development. These phases blend theoretical learning with practical experiences, allowing trainees to shadow experienced professionals, develop basic and advanced fiber optic skills, and apply safety training in real-world scenarios. The focus is on mastering fieldwork, emergency response and advanced installation techniques, all while progressing through OSHA 10 training. Job description:
The job of the aerial and underground Fiber optic lineman is to set up lines and cables, including fiber, utilizing various construction tools. The Aerial Lineman will also be in charge of inspecting any violations of previously installed infrastructure and bringing them up to code. Must be willing to travel within CO, MT, WA, ID and OR. Desired QualificationsAbility to safely work overhead using climbing hooks, ladders, and bucket lifts. Possess a valid driver’s license or be eligible and willing to obtain the required license for the positionBasic knowledge of and ability to operate various types of utility trucks and equipment in a safe mannerBasic knowledge of and ability of hand tools and equipment in a safe mannerAbility to communicate effectively with employeesWilling and able to work in all weather conditionsAbility to climb telephone poles up to 40 feet, and work in a bucket truck aloft.Able to lift/carry 50 lbs. regularly and up to 100 lbs. as needed with or without assistance The employee will need to have the ability to stand for long periods of time (up to 12 hours at a time), tolerate work in extreme weather conditions, speak and hear worksite safety instructions, withstand prolonged and repeated: lifting, standing, climbing, kneeling, reaching, feeling, crouching, and crawlingResponsibilities for LinemanServices may include placing poles, anchors and guys, aerial strand and cable, direct buried pipe, trenching cable, conventional and directional boring, placing underground conduit systemsAll phases of telecommunication construction include but are not limited to: Loading, driving, delivery, digging, removal and placement of various types, sizes and weight of construction materials and equipmentInstall and repair aerial and underground telecommunications cableSafely use hand tools and equipment such as wrenches, drills, ladders, lanyards, saws, lashers, climbing hooks, and moreSafely operate mechanized equipment such as bucket trucksSetting up safety perimeter using signage, cones, safety barriers.
