Job description:

The Controls Engineer designs, develops, programs, integrates, tests, installs, configures, and documents electrical, PLC, SCADA, robotic, and industrial automation systems used on equipment developed by Curtiss-Wright Surface Technologies Engineering in Gastonia, North Carolina. The role supports the full controls lifecycle from concept and electrical design through software development, commissioning, troubleshooting, and field deployment. Because the position functions as a systems integrator, the engineer works closely with mechanical designs and machine behavior to develop practical automation solutions. The Controls Engineer also provides technical support for deployed equipment and may travel to Curtiss-Wright facilities worldwide to support installation, startup, configuration, and issue resolution. Program duration and training scope may be expanded or condensed based on participant experience, qualifications, and transition timeline. Due to DoW requirements, candidates must be US citizens. Must be able to obtain and maintain DoD Security clearances and approvals

Eligibility factors:

Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, Navy, Space Force
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Controls Engineering, or a related technical field. A minimum of approximately three years of experience in a controls, automation, systems integration, or complementary engineering role is preferred, although junior candidates with relevant foundational experience may also be considered. Experience with electrical systems and components such as circuit breakers, relays, switches, transmitters, and power supplies is required, along with the ability to read or create wiring layouts, schematics, and diagrams using CAD tools. Programming experience with PLCs, industrial automation software, LabVIEW, C++, or similar platforms is desirable. Familiarity with industrial communication protocols such as Ethernet, Profibus, and EtherCAT is preferred. Experience with manufacturing processes, Siemens platforms, Beckhoff platforms, and SolidWorks Electrical is highly desirable. Strong troubleshooting, engineering judgment, mechanical aptitude, communication skills, and willingness to travel internationally are required.
