Vets RISE: Field Service Technician

The Field Service Technician supports field-deployed operations by operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting complex technical equipment systems on behalf of government and commercial customers — a critical role in high-demand technical service industries where veterans are uniquely positioned to strengthen mission readiness and equipment reliability. This role emphasizes technical manual interpretation, real-time customer coordination, field testing and troubleshooting, and maintenance documentation. In these efforts, a successful Field Service Technician ensures equipment remains mission-capable, customer requirements are met, and technical records stay accurate and current. The Vets RISE program specifically leverages the technical proficiency, adaptability, and mission-focused discipline developed during military service. Participation in the Field Service Technician SkillBridge Fellowship will focus on equipment operation, field maintenance, and customer coordination. The participant will also gain hands-on experience in system troubleshooting, technical documentation, preventive maintenance, and on-site training delivery.The training plan for this program combines live instruction, walk-through demonstrations, and project-based knowledge applications managed by a designated supervisor. If remote participation is required to accommodate a participant’s military service or geographic constraints, at least 50% of the training will be delivered in a live-synchronous manner to ensure engagement and accountability. Training includes structured weekly goal-setting sessions with clearly defined, measurable learning objectives aligned to civilian field service and technical systems support competencies.
