Job description:
Special Education Paraprofessional Essential Position Duties: Provide assistance to teachers, staff and students for the purpose of providing a well-organized, smoothly functional class environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials. Assist with building level tasks that promote an orderly, safe and pleasant environment. Relieve teachers of non-teaching tasks in order that they may utilize their time for diagnostic testing and the construction of educational programs. Assist in implementation of Individualized Education Plan (IEP) goals within the general education or special education classroom setting. Assist with personal and physical care and/or health needs of students including possible toileting and feeding. Perform assigned nursing procedures as taught by the school nurse. Perform recess, bus, hall, and lunch supervision. Assist in material production. Supervise and assist learning activities, games, and learning centers. Perform clerical tasks as related to preparing, duplicating and assembling instructional materials; correcting papers, tests or quizzes; record keeping functions, schedules/ notebooks, etc.Assist the teacher in compilation of any required or requested reports.Work cooperatively with other assistants, teachers, specialists and administrators.Be vigilant of items/equipment/facilities that need adjusted, repaired, etc.Assist with implementation of behavior plans for students.Communicate effectively with the supervising teacher(s).Maintain building security and student confidentiality.Transport students/Drive school van.Education and Knowledge Required:Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction Handicapped Children’s Aide license #883 (Special Education Assistants only who do not possess a teaching or substitute license).High School Diploma or equivalent.Basic computer knowledge (email, calendar, documents)Ability to accurately compute well enough to solve problems involving arithmetic (fractions, decimals, add, subtract, multiply, divide)Read and follow multi-step processes/directions at a high school level. Ability to clearly and accurately communicate in writing. Valid driver's license Ability to keep records (electronically and paper) accuratelyBasic clerical skills as related to filing, record keeping, computer use, etc.Certification in First Aid and CPR (desired)Ability to swim (if required by caseload)Crisis prevention/Deescalation training (if required by caseload)
