The Skillbridge program grants active duty service members and military spouses the opportunity to gain valuable civilian work experience through specific industry training by matching civilian opportunities to a service member’s job training and work experience. In addition, Skillbridge presents service members an opportunity to reskill, preceding a lateral move to an entirely new career field as a civilian. The stated goal of providing service members with such opportunities is to enhance theirmarketability and career prospects following their separation from military duty. The Skillbridge program therefore aims to serve as a bridge between military service and civilian employment, with the Department of Defense overseeing the placementof service members in a variety of employment fields.As part of the Department of Defense Skillbridge, service members and spouses can work and train in a program that best matches their future career goals, for up to 180 days prior to leaving service. Throughout their Skillbridge participation and training, service members continue to receive military compensation and benefits from the Department of Defense, with release for the Skillbridge program contingent upon unit commander authorization and mission-dependency. The Allegiant Giving Skillbridge is designed to provide training and practical application to service members in their chosen career track and employment support prior to the end of their active service.
