Summary description:
SkillBridge participants will participate in cohort-based internships throughout the University of Chicago and University of Chicago Medical Center. They will participate in and conduct research on military transition, barriers affecting access to higher education for veterans and military families, while they themselves build upon necessary skills to successfully access and complete higher education. The SkillBridge Intern, reporting to the Director in the Office for Military-Affiliated Communities, will work to assess, identify and implement strategies and programming for transitioning Service members and their families, as they are entering the University.
Job description:
Partners with military-affiliated student groups, federal VA work-study participants and military-affiliated programs to support initiatives within the groups. Works with Director for OMAC to coordinate programs for the military-affiliated community, participates in workshops and courses developed by OMAC and campus partners to enhance the intern's communication, writing and research (qualitative & quantitative) skills, research and draft grant proposals which support the military-affiliated community, provide mentoring to student veterans in the College, participate in research projects related to transitioning of student veterans and military families, and collaborate with offices within EOP on projects relating to military-affiliated communities.
Interest parties must provide a resume/CV, statement of purpose, letter of approval from command to participate and complete all University of Chicago trainings (sexual harassment, working with children and a background). Participants are required to utilize VA or DOD Tuition Assistance benefits for any courses they wish to take for credit at the University of Chicago. Taking graduate courses while participating in the program is not required, but available.

Approval from the DOD to participate in a SkillBridge program. Bachelor's Degree (for participants who wish to take graduate courses while performing the internship). A bachelors degree is not required to participate as a Skillbridge Intern.
