Summary description:
Group 99 - Advanced Electro-Optical SystemsThe Advanced Electro-Optical Systems group specializes in the rapid development and demonstration of innovative optical system solutions to address difficult challenges facing the Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, NASA, and other U.S. government entities. The group maintains broad expertise in electro-optical and infrared sensors, charge-coupled devices, focal plane arrays, ground/air/space electronics, image processing, video exploitation, and low–size/weight/power optical communications systems. The group leverages this core expertise to architect, prototype, build, and deploy hardware and software systems in support of mission needs. Emphasis is on working closely with end users to develop enabling concepts and then building and fielding integrated systems on responsive timelines. The group seeks self-motivated engineers and scientists with multidisciplinary skill sets and a passion for conceptualizing, designing, and building systems that address critical national needs.
Job description:
The Advanced Electro-Optical Systems Group has an opening for an Engineering and Technical Specialist. This position seeks someone with a broad background in electronics, mechanical design, systems, and Integration and Testing. As an Engineering and Technical Specialist, you will assist in laboratory or research work, operate experimental and technical equipment, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of engineers to design, prototype, and deploy high-integrated electro-optic systems. Your responsibilities will include:Electronic and Mechanical Assembly: Fabricate and assemble electronic hardware from schematics, including populating printed circuit boards and wiring RF assemblies. Perform mechanical assembly of RF systems, mount and bracket devices, drill/tap, and install equipment into racks with subsequent electrical testing.System Integration and Testing: Design, build, and test operational systems and test harnesses. Assist in the development of embedded firmware/software for both terrestrial and space-borne systems. Collaborate with optical, mechanical, and electrical engineers to optimize design at the system level.Mechanical Design and Analysis: Support the mechanical design, analysis, integration, and testing of complex systems, from conceptual design through installation to field performance evaluation. Present design concepts to internal and external audiences.Systems Engineering: Engage in roles such as image processing, optical system characterization, sensor characterization, and satellite hardware design. Develop expertise across multiple technical domains, including space hardware, EO sensors, and optics. Participate in concept development, team leadership, and presentation of results.
