Participants in this role will work in the area that is best fit for their skills and interest. There is possibility of working in many key operational departments of estimating, project management, field operations, etc. Key Accountabilities:• Learn company software applications specific to all operational departments• Attend owner, construction manager and architect project review meetings, take accurate minutes and produce minutes in a timely manner• Attend 30-hour OSHA course and become certifiedWithin Estimating the following accountabilities will be assigned:• Develop an understanding of how an entire estimate is assembled including developing knowledge of material prices and labor rates by trade• Perform quantify take-off calculations• Prepare qualification and assumption qualifications• Develop understanding of processes and presentation regarding value engineering• Develop an understanding of the various procurement methods, lump sum, GMP, Design/Build, CM at risk and CM as agent• Develop skills at soliciting subcontractors to bid on a project Within Project Engineering the following accountabilities will be assigned:• Accurately read shop drawings• Develop an understanding of the lead times associated with each trade’s work• Develop and analyze cost reports; identify and determine reasons for significant variances in actual vs. budgeted amounts• Develop an understanding of MEP principles• Set up the submittal log on assigned projects and manage the submittal process• Develop an understanding of trends and factors that drive the prices in the trades’ businesses• Assist the Project Manager in the assembly of close-out documents Within Field Operations the following accountabilities will be assigned:• Develop a schedule and update the work progress on a regular basis• Present update reports at project meetings• Develop an understanding of how a project lay-out and engineering controls are accomplished• Develop an understanding of how to read testing and soil reports• Obtain building permits• Develop an understanding of the insurance coverages and endorsements• Learn about the vertical transportation of materials Background and Experience Required: Undergraduate degree in construction management or related field plus some internship work in an architectural, construction or engineering related environment is strongly desired. Regularly reads books, magazines and articles to enhance personal and professional skills.• Interpersonal and Negotiation Skills-Strong ability to forge solid working, trusting and partnering relationships with subcontractors, vendors and internal staff. Communicating data, position or arguments in a manner that gains acceptance or agreement to reach intended outcome. Seeks a win-win solution.• PC Skills-Demonstrated experience and competence in office productivity tools such as Word, Excel and MS Project. Demonstrated experience in estimating and other construction project management software such as Off Center, Take Off, Construction Information Network, Constructware and MS Project.• Self-Starter-Demonstrated skill at accomplishing own work without the need for close supervision. Acts based on urgency, client needs and the needs of the firm without always having to ask someone for guidance. • Time Management-Demonstrated ability and success in accomplishing tasks by established deadlines; demonstrated discipline in using time management tools and techniques to effectively multitask when needed.
