Job description:
The Heavy Equipment Technician Trainee performs supervised preventive maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, and component service on Caterpillar machinery. Training includes exposure to hydraulic systems, mechanical components, electrical systems, undercarriage systems, and safe shop practices. Participants train approximately 40 hours per week alongside experienced senior technicians. Training emphasizes safety compliance, technical competency development, documentation accuracy, and professional workplace readiness. Successful completion may lead to consideration for full-time employment following military separation, based on performance and business needs.
Must be within 180 days of separation. Must receive command approval. Mechanical aptitude preferred. Ability to work safely around heavy equipment. Must be able to work in an industrial shop environment
