DHA Genetics Reference Laboratory - Medical Genetics Laboratory Testing

The DHA Genetics Reference Laboratory performs highly complex specific cytogenetic and molecular Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) laboratory tests for DoD medical facilities worldwide. Provides comprehensive genetic services relating to patient care/counseling, provider education, and laboratory testing in support of the Department of Defense (DoD) Medical Service Mission and the military family.

Technical specialist for molecular testing. Performs high complexity/DNA analysis from various cell lines for the diagnosis of genetic diseases and the determination of genetic carrier status. Analyzes and interprets patient DNA test results. Performs pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic phases of DNA testing, verifies accuracy of patient results, interprets unexpected results, and generates accurate descriptive patient reports. Performs DNA extractions, polymerase chain reaction (PCR), vertical and horizontal electrophoresis, DNA hybridization, molecular cytogenetic testing, and DNA sequencing and analysis.

A minimum of an associate degree in a biological or chemical science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution AND be certified by the ASCP, AMT or other organization deemed comparable by OASD(HA) or their designee Center for Laboratory Medicine Services (CLMS) as an MLT or MT/MLS
