As America’s Arctic University located within the Northern Cordillera, the University of Alaska Fairbanks offers excellent accessibility to a broad range of research interests and potential collaborations. The new hire will split time between teaching and research, with 50% of time dedicated toward teaching and service (6-8 credit hours per 9-month academic period) and 50% toward research at the Geophysical Institute. The University of Alaska Fairbanks and Geophysical Institute host numerous focused research groups, including the Alaska Volcano Observatory (AVO), Alaska Earthquake Center, Tectonics and Sedimentation, Geophysics, geo/thermochronology, and remote sensing. In addition, private (industry) and public (state and federal) entities both have ongoing research efforts throughout Alaska. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to build cross-disciplinary and collaborative research program. The Department of Geosciences is a growing department with strong focus on traditional geology curriculum in addition to the emerging Earth System Science graduate program. Participation in the Department's cap-stone field camp, located in the remote Talkeetna Mountains, is encouraged. To thrive in this role, the successful candidate must have a demonstrated history of research evidenced by peer-reviewed publications and teaching experience commensurate with their current position. Commitment and experience working with a diverse student population is favorable. Experience with proposal writing and grant management is preferred. A demonstrated ability to collaborate with other scientists in similar or complementary fields is desired.
