Summary description:
A Safety Intern’s job is to assist and support the assigned Field Safety Coordinator with identifying workplace hazards, correcting unsafe work practices, and collaborating with company employees to plan for identified hazards. Field Safety Coordinators spend the majority of their time in the field performing site safety audits and coaching workers on best practices.
Job description:
• Conducts site safety audits and provides coaching to field workers on safe work practices and company policies.• Works collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation to create and cultivate an injury and incident-free work environment.• Ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, owner requirements, and company policies and procedures.• Actively and professionally interacts with all employees to promote a safe work environment.• Anticipates, identifies, evaluates, and corrects hazardous conditions and practices.• Conducts comprehensive new hire and subcontractor safety and site-specific orientations and provide other construction safety training as needed.• Ensures all employees wear the appropriate clothing, safety equipment, and other personal protective equipment.• Brings any safety violation and/or hazardous condition observed to the attention of the Supervisor in charge for immediate correction and assist in planning hazard abatement solutions as needed.• Conducts, documents, and distributes site safety audits.• Assists the Risk Management department in handling worker’s compensation claims by ensuring the initial incident documentation is complete and accurate.• Manages incident, injury, or near miss events by responding to the event location, viewing evidence, noting conditions, conducting interviews, taking the appropriate follow-up action, and assisting with event analysis.• Conducts monitoring to determine the absence or presence of IDLH environments, excessive noise, and low light conditions.• Inspects tools and equipment to ensure its safe operating condition including, but not limited to, assured ground testing of electrical cords and equipment and fall protection inspections.• Assists in managing the Silica Management Program including, but not limited to, medical questionnaire assignment and completion and qualitative fit testing.• Regularly attends continuing education and training opportunities.• Maintains relevant job-related certifications and training requirements.• Properly maintains their work vehicle (interior and exterior) including regular washing and general maintenance.• Respectfully takes direction from the Safety Manager.• Maintains punctual, regular, and predictable attendance.• Maintains a professional appearance and demeanor.• Other duties as assigned.
