Job description:
Essential Job Functions:• Performs pre/post-trip safety inspection of truck in accordance with DOT regulations, including checking fluids such as oil, antifreeze, and lights; reports any maintenance issues to the mechanic before getting dispatched. • Completes and turns in all required paperwork daily. • Load and Unload Material at Quarry, Plant, or Jobsite- including but not limited to sand, rock, subbase, concrete. • Must follow and adhere to all per DOT, OSHA, and Metro Ready Mix policies and procedures including, but not limited to loading/ unloading and hooking up trailers, adhering to all weight restrictions. • Ensure that the correct material is being loaded. • Daily, clean trucks inside and out per Metro Ready Mix, LC. policy. • Using the Fast Weigh App to accept and sign for the tickets for all loads hauled. • Accurately and completely fill out hire haul ticket and Obtain customer's signature for any materials/services provided. • Communicates in a timely manner with the Dispatcher/Plant Manager, Project Manager and/or person in charge of the construction site as to truck status and location. • Operate vehicles per DOT & Metro Ready Mix policies regulations as well as follow all traffic laws. • Will operate all vehicles/equipment requested and allowed per the Commercial Driver's License held. This may include:• Concrete Mixer (Class A & B)• Side Dump (Class A & B)• Water Truck - If a tanker endorsement is had. (Class A & B)• Tractor Trailer/Tanker (Class A) -may include hauling heavy and oversized loads. • May operate other equipment as needed, including, but not limited to loader, forklift, skytrak. • Perform other duties as assigned, including assisting the Plant Maintenance Technician with maintenance tasks. • Assist, as needed, with upkeep, maintenance and cleaning of the Ready Mix Plants, including the portable plant, and equipment including but not limited to:• Clean debris that falls from belts during production• Keep properties clean/lawn maintenance.• General cleaning inside: batch office, breakroom, restroom • Works safely following all Metro Ready Mix, LC. safety policies/SOPS, OSHA regulations, and DOT Regulations.• Accurately clock time in and out, per task, in WorkMax throughout the shift. • Assist in helping train new employees to learn our equipment, policies, and procedures. • Must report all accidents, incidents, and near misses to Supervisor or Safety Manager as soon as safe to do so.
To engage interns in training that will lead to the intern obtaining an Iowa Department of Transportation (IDOT) Class B Commercial Drivers License. And train interns on our specific equipment leading toward the Intern being able to safely operate our equipment on their own and successfully be employed with the company.

The first portion of this internship training is provided through Kirkwood Community College located at Cedar Rapids Iowa. This is where the intern shall undergo theoretical and hands on training and obtain a Class B Commercial Drivers License credential. After this the student is then trained on the job with our equipment 30-45 days.
