Job description:
The Construction Supervisor, under the general direction of the Manager or Lead Construction Supervisor, will be responsible for overseeing assigned external contract construction crews performing both maintenance and construction activities. The construction crews consist of both represented and non-represented employees/companies working for National Grid. Supervisors coordinate and monitor the daily activities of assigned contractors to assure high standards of safety, security, work quality and accuracy, environmental compliance, and assuring uninterrupted service is delivered to customers in a timely and professional manner consistent with Company and regulatory requirements.Key Responsibilities: Supervisor under the direction of a Mentor will be able to work on the following areas:Coordinate the daily activities of assigned external contractors performing construction, maintenance and restoration work associated with electric utility civil construction. Work in unison with other departments to ensure a seamless transition of work.Monitor performance of a diverse staff including job progress, crew activities and standards of work to ensure projects are carried out efficiently, effectively, and safely.Project Planning - plan projects, schedule outages, conduct bid reviews and clarifications, review and approve estimates, review the Health and Safety Plan for the project.Work with other supervisors and departments to review engineering drawings and technical specifications. Survey site locations for constructability considerations, confirm proper permits and licenses are available prior to work start and attend project meetings as requested.Project Execution- Site safety, schedule adherence, material management, outage coordination, change order management, administrative updates/project meetings and project coordination between National Grid departments and outside vendors or utilities.Ensure work is performed per National Grid specifications, standards and applicable contractual documents and applicable environmental and safety regulations are consistently adhered to. Assure compliance to all applicable Federal, state, local and National Grid guidelines, laws and regulations.Project Close out- As-built submission, Billing and Asset Information input.Respond and report to off hour emergencies including storm restoration, contractor damages, large scale outages, etc. Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required:Experience with overseeing the completion of challenging electrical construction projects.Display well-developed verbal and written communication skills.Ability to effectively interface and communicate with people at all levels across organizational boundaries.Qualifications:Associates degree or equivalent job-related experience in a relevant area. Three years related experience is preferred.Technically proficient within subject matter or demonstrated ability to learn the business. Ability to read and interpret job scope of work, construction drawings, specifications, contract documents, and develop effective solutions to construction related challenges.A solid working knowledge of tools and systems within designated area or demonstrated ability to be able to become proficient in tools and systems. Understanding of construction principles, equipment, work methods and the hazards associated with this work and ability to mitigate those hazards.Experience managing a team with the ability to build effective and respectful working relationships. More Information:Length of training: 4-6 months based on prior experience and workload. Training will consist of formal classroom and laboratory-based training conducted by National Grid’s Learning and Development department as shown below. Training will also consist of extensive on-the-job training (OJT) in the field, led by an assigned Senior Supervisor.
The position will be located in Worcester Massachusetts with frequent travel provided by a company vehicle.
