Job Title:Certified Commercial applicator in turf & ornamentalJob description:Participants will learn, through hands on experience, how to diagnose and treat lawn and/or landscape issues in accordance with Geargia Department of Agriculture (GDA) Division of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) and product labeling. A certified commercial applicator with TurfMasters of Augusta performs chemical applications to lawns and landscapes per customer contracts.Timeline:This is a 16 week program. Current and past employees who have completed similar in house training were able to pass the written certification exam administered by GDA DPR.Training blocks:Introduction:WEEKS 1 through 4-introduction to company procedures, company documents, safety protocols, PPE, job site safety, driver safety, educational books, equipment, product labeling and interpretation, introduction to liquid and granular applicationsBasic grass type ID and treatment:WEEKS 5 through 8- participants will learn to identify all warm season grass types along with basic techniques to perform liquid and granular treatments through different equipment. Also, included in this block is an introduction to basic customer service skillsAdvanced ID and customer service:WEEKS 9 through 12-Participants will learn to identify common weeds and wild grasses along with treatment options as they relate to each specific turf type. This block will include an introduction to insect and disease ID and treatment. This block builds on basic application techniques learned in weeks 5-8 to become proficient in advanced application techniques.Skill & knowledge sharpening and testing:WEEKS 13 through 16;This block will build on all skills and knowledge introduced prior with an emphasis on passing the applicator licensing written test. During this block participants will take the 2 written exams needed to become certified commercial pesticide applicators administered by the GDA DPRThis training program is primarily “hands on” demonstration and performance. There is also a small aspect of classroom style training included.
