Candidates for this and every DoD SkillBridge internship opportunity with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) are able to intern for 180, 120, and 90 days and MUST be at least 11 MONTHS away from (outside of) separation. Why 11 months? We are able to host SkillBridge interns for their final 180, 120, and/or 90 days on active-duty depending on the individual service-member’s situation. We use the time prior to their finite internship dates to complete our required HR actions to include getting them in front of hiring managers, having interviews conducted, selection decisions being made, “Qualifications Reviews” successfully completed on their resumes clearly demonstrating that they have the required experience, etc. for the positions for which they are being considered, along with a 3 to 5 month (on average) full CBP Background Investigation (BI) that MUST be completed prior to internship start dates.MAJOR DUTIESIntelligence Gathering and Reporting: Assists senior Law Enforcement Information Systems Specialist in developing intelligence reports based on information gathered to be used by Border Patrol Agents (BPAs) to predict, detect, deter, and apprehend terrorists, migrants, human smugglers, illicit drugs, and other contraband from entering the United States. Video and Sensor Gathering and Reporting: Receives, compiles, and updates tactical intelligence reports impacting real time enforcement operations within CBP and other law enforcement agencies. Assists in preparing forensic evidence (audio and visual) for court, establishing chain of custody, and testifying in court on behalf of the government explaining information conveyed to the field on surveillance activities, sensor alarms, and database findings. Gathers, verifies, and sorts information requested by BPAs and law enforcement organizations for accuracy and completeness. Geographic Information System (GIS) Analysis: Maintains USBP historical activity data including apprehensions, seizures, and Significant Incident Reports (SIRs). Assists inreviewing various reports to ensure accuracy in various areas including assisting in conducting data mining and analysis information by utilizing national databases to determine the identify, non-citizenship, and removability of individuals in accordance with immigration laws, rules, and regulations. Database Analysis: Assists in conducting analysis of all aspects of established operating programs databases to locate relevant information to be used in the development of tactical decisions during mission planning and execution including resource utilization and other related matters.
