The intern works under close supervision, and in a developmental capacity performing work assignments and completing training, both of which are aimed in preparing the internto gain the knowledge and skills necessary to perform the following duties:The intern implements U.S. Border Patrol Social Media Strategy, developing brand awareness, generating inbound traffic, and encouraging product adoption. Implements the social media strategy, coordinating with stakeholders to ensure its effectiveness and encouraging adoption of relevant social media techniques into the corporate culture and into all U.S. Border Patrol Academy products and services. Manages social media campaigns and day-to-day activities. Duties include online advocacy, writing editorials, community-outreach efforts, promotions, etc. Maintains a presence in social networking sites including Twitter, and other similar community sites, posting on relevant blogs, and seeding content into social applications as needed. Under guidance from the supervisor will become an advocate of the U.S. Border Patrol Academy in social media spaces, answering questions where appropriate. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Planning, researching, writing, and editing internal and external publications and guidelines to keep employees informed about current OFAM programs, priorities, and initiatives within OFAM. Developing communication products may include executive remarks, mass mailings, SharePoint maintenance, improvements, fact sheets, newsletters, posters, reports, press releases surveys, and presentations. Partnering with internal subject matter experts and CBP communications offices to identify, develop, and recommend effective techniques to communicate operational policies, procedures, and information tailored to unique external audiences. Developing, implementing, and evaluating the effectiveness of OFAM communications strategies, materials, and programs that support and promote enhanced engagement with OFAM stakeholder communities. Handling, drafting, reviewing, and packaging correspondence, communications, and messaging - including pre-decisional supervisor messaging, FOUO, personnel, and other sensitive content on behalf of the Assistant Commissioner, Deputy Assistant Commissioner, and Chief of Staff. Serving as a liaison for multiple offices across CBP, to include the Office of Congressional Affairs and the Office of Public Affairs.
