Explore the mapBasic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) is designed to give students essential skills required for entry-level employment as law enforcement officers with state, county, or municipal governments, or with private enterprises. This program utilizes state commission-mandated topics and methods of instruction. General subjects include, but are not limited to, criminal investigation, juvenile laws, civil process, law enforcement driver training, ABC laws, motor vehicle laws, patrol techniques, court procedures, emergency responses, and ethics and community relations. Students must successfully complete and pass all units of study to receive a certificate. Upon successful passage of the certification examination mandated by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission and the North Carolina Sheriffs' Education and Training Standards Commission, students may seek job opportunities with state, county, and municipal governments in North Carolina. In addition, knowledge, skills, and abilities acquired in this course of study qualify individuals for job opportunities with private enterprises in such areas as industrial, retail, and private security.
