Summary description:
The Assistant Superintendent Skillbridge Intern will have a great deal of input in the overall planning and oversight of the job. This role is intended for approved active duty military Skillbridge internship candidates. This role includes scheduling of manpower, obtaining tools and materials needed, filing permits and other documents, and even advising on budget expenditures. The Assistant Superintendent Skillbridge Intern will also provide on-site supervision of the daily workload, job site safety, receiving and storing of tools and supplies, and the reporting of all of these aspects to the project managers and Project Superintendent. Additionally, the Assistant Superintendent Skillbridge Intern is expected to work diligently to educate his or her self with the Clayco on-site Superintendent and Operations Manager to take the next step toward becoming a Superintendent.
Job description:
Work closely with the Project Superintendent to schedule manpower, trades, and construction activities while assisting with coordinating project resources and collaborating with operations, safety, quality, engineering, procurement, and project management personnel. Support and promote Clayco's safety culture by educating subcontractors on safety expectations, assisting with enforcement of safety policies in the field, and participating in daily site walks, safety inspections, and safety audits to help maintain a safe work environment. Work alongside the on-site Superintendent to review project schedules, safety performance, reporting requirements, and quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) processes, while generating and maintaining weekly look-ahead schedules. Observe field work and compare installations to drawings and specifications to ensure quality and compliance, assist with documenting project progress, and communicate field conditions, safety observations, and quality concerns to project leadership. Develop an understanding of construction operations, project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and field leadership through direct mentorship from Clayco Superintendents and Operations Managers.
The internship opportunities are project-based and may be located anywhere within the United States. While each SkillBridge internship will be completed at a single project location, candidates should be willing to travel and/or relocate if offered full-time employment upon successful completion of the internship.Please include a resume with your application and indicate your preferred internship availability dates. Active-duty military members approved to participate in the DoD SkillBridge Program are encouraged to apply. A bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, Engineering, a related field, or equivalent military experience is preferred, along with previous leadership experience in the military, construction industry, or other relevant environments. Candidates should have a strong interest in pursuing a career in construction management, field operations, and project leadership, with the ability to work effectively with project teams, management, owners, trades, subcontractors, and other stakeholders. The ideal candidate will be able to balance and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment, demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills, and maintain a strong commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement. Above-average proficiency with technology and related resources is preferred, along with a strong work ethic and willingness to travel and/or relocate if a full-time offer is extended upon successful completion of the SkillBridge internship. Candidates must also be able to walk unlevel terrain and active job sites several times per day, climb scaffolding and temporary stairs multiple stories high, lift at least 60 pounds, and work regularly in areas with elevated noise levels. Successful candidates will be motivated, hardworking, team-oriented, and eager to learn.
