Participants will work alongside experienced technicians to learn how commercial HVAC systems are tested, measured, adjusted, and documented to verify proper system performance and occupant comfort.Training includes exposure to airflow measurement, hydronic balancing, HVAC controls, blueprint interpretation, system diagnostics, field instrumentation, and technical reporting. Participants will gain experience working on commercial and industrial construction projects while developing skills in mechanical systems, troubleshooting, data collection, and professional jobsite practices.This program is designed to provide practical industry experience and prepare participants for entry-level employment opportunities within the HVAC, TAB, commissioning, and building performance fields.
Job description:
Specific Job DutiesAssist with testing, adjusting, and balancing commercial HVAC air and hydronic systems.Measure airflow, pressure, temperature, and water flow using industry-standard testing instruments.Operate and maintain TAB equipment including airflow hoods, manometers, anemometers, tachometers, and temperature measurement devices.Read and interpret construction drawings, mechanical plans, equipment schedules, and specifications.Collect and record system performance data for analysis and reporting.Assist in the adjustment of dampers, valves, fan speeds, and control devices to achieve design operating conditions.Participate in troubleshooting HVAC system performance issues and identifying potential deficiencies.Observe and assist with Building Automation System (BAS) and control system verification activities.Prepare field notes and assist with TAB report documentation.Follow established safety procedures and maintain compliance with company and jobsite safety requirements.Communicate professionally with supervisors, contractors, and other construction personnel.Travel to commercial and industrial job sites to participate in field testing and balancing activities under the supervision of experienced TAB technicians.
Based in Rapid City, SD, with travel to commercial and industrial project sites throughout the region. Participants receive hands-on HVAC Testing, Adjusting, and Balancing (TAB) training including airflow measurement, hydronic balancing, system diagnostics, and technical reporting.
