Other: An exciting opportunity for transitioning Service members interested learning about the field of water treatment plant equipment and processes. Job Description: Water & Sewer Maintenance Mechanic Intern will perform entry level tasks involved in the operation and maintenance of the City's water treatment plant equipment and processes. Summary Description: This is a 15-week internship for the Water & Sewer Maintenance Mechanic VIBE SkillBridge Internship Program provides an entry into learning how to perform a variety of skilled work in the Maintenance of the City's Wastewater Treatment Facility to include water pump repair, valve repair and general maintenance. Students will learn the necessary skills to eventually become a maintenance mechanic. Students will be working under the mentorship of an experience maintenance mechanic. They will gain skills that will help them excel in an industry that has a need for qualified maintenance mechanics. Students will learn how to: (1) inspects all mechanical equipment; (2) perform weekly preventative maintenance; (3) Perform plant equipment repairs; (4) How to look and listen for any abnormal mechanical actions or sounds; (5) Knowledge of overall maintenance repairs; (6) common metal work projects we perform and equipment used; (7) Advanced training including call out scenarios. Other Requirements: Physical Demands & Work Environment: Most work is performed in a water treatment plant/field setting, with occasional work done in an office environment. PPE will be provided. May be exposed to harsh substances; be exposed to foul odors within acceptable ranges/levels; work in confined spaces; ascend and descend ladders up to 50 feet in height; wear protective apparel including, but not limited to, goggles, face protectors, aprons, fall protection, shoes and a respirator, as required by OSHA standards. Work Schedule: The City's normal working hours are 7 am to 3:30 pm Monday - Friday, though Water Resources Department has a flexible work schedule dependent upon operational needs. The City should be able to work around the needs of the veteran's schedule.
