Training is in-person and will involve equipment, gear, and boat training. Over 8 weeks the individual will grow in skills for fish handling, use of equipment or gear for fishing, and boat operation. Safety and best practices will be taught along with some mechanical repair.
Job description:
Technicians work with a crew of 3-4 under a licensed boat captain. Technicians may be placed on an enclosed or open deck boat for the work day, ranging from 32-47 feet in length. Ability to identify, sort, and measure fish is required. Work days and weather can change at any given time, and it is imperative that crews can work efficiently, effectively, and safely. Our company’s objective is to provide operational expertise in the areas of fisheries assessment through gillnetting efforts, as well as data collection by collaborating with fisheries scientific community to assist in the management of native fish, and the restoration of the native ecosystem. Skills include:• Deployment and retrieval of gill nets• Removal of fish from nets• Identify, sort, and measure fish for data collection• Maintain and clean boats, and housing units• General upkeep of fishing gear and boats
