Explore the mapThe ATF SkillBridge Intergovernmental Affairs & Strategic Partnerships Specialist internship is a 24‑week, in‑person program within the office of Public and Governmental Affairs. It provides transitioning service members with hands‑on experience in partner engagement, federal and interagency coordination, event planning, briefing material development, and strategic relationship management. Interns learn how ATF maintains and advances relationships across federal agencies, law enforcement associations, state and local governments, tribal governments, and national-level organizations. Through structured phases, participants build practical skills in meeting coordination, stakeholder outreach, community engagement, and strategic communications while supporting high‑visibility engagements and multi-agency initiatives. Completion does not constitute an offer of federal employment.
The Intergovernmental Affairs & Strategic Partnerships Specialist intern supports ATF’s stakeholder engagement and partnership mission by coordinating meetings, preparing briefing materials, and assisting with interagency and external partner interactions. Core responsibilities include drafting agendas, logistics memos, talking points, one‑pagers, and executive summaries for ATF leadership; supporting outreach initiatives; helping plan and execute law enforcement association engagements and community‑based events; tracking requests, action items, and partnership activities; and managing stakeholder correspondence. The intern also assists with high‑visibility roundtables, national conferences, and interagency initiatives, including preparing pre‑event materials, documenting outcomes, and maintaining partner relationship frameworks. Work is supervised directly by the Intergovernmental Affairs supervisor, with increasing independent responsibility throughout the program. The role requires professionalism, strong communication skills, and the ability to coordinate activities involving senior officials and external stakeholders.
