Summary description:
The Veterans Local Government Management Fellowship is for individuals who would like to begin a career in local government. We place fellows in a local government office (town/city/county), from 0900-1700, five days a week. The fellow has a mentor and gains the hands on skills, education and experience required to transition into a career in local government. The fellowship also provides career guidance, job search tools, assistance with resume writing, and practice of interviewing skills.
Job description:
The Fellowship does not guarantee a job offer however, based on the individuals skills and career level the fellow can apply to open positions. Fellows often become: Town/City/County Manager or Assistant Manager; Town/City/County Department Director; local government management analysts; public works, utilities, human resources, procurement and contract management, public policy analysis, law enforcement, information technology, fire or EMS services, finance, strategic management, parks and recreation, project or program management, economic development, fleet/facilities management, and business or public administration.
Our Fellowship is offered in any location where an ICMA member agrees to host a Veteran Fellow and we have over 12,000 members located in 85% of the cities in the United States. Must have a strong interest in local government management; hold a bachelor's degree with 3+ years of leadership experience (or equivalent related experience) OR hold an associate's degree with 5+ years of leadership experience (or equivalent related experience) WITH the intent to complete a bachelor's degree in the next 3 years; Must apply at https://icma.org/vlgmf/apply.
