The Entry Level Technician position at ATS is a great opportunity for individuals interested in developing their skills in diesel maintenance and repair. This role is key in ensuring that ATS tractors and trailers are well-maintained and meet all safety standards to keep them on the road.Position Overview:As an Entry Level Diesel Technician, you will be responsible for performing scheduled preventative maintenance (PM) and basic truck inspections according to standard operating procedures (PMB, PMQ, PMI). Using both ATS-specific and industry-standard methods, you will ensure that various types of ATS tractors are safe, efficient, and ready for service.Key Responsibilities:Scheduled Preventative Maintenance:Conduct routine maintenance on a variety of tractor and trailer systems, including engines, brake systems, electrical components, and more.Follow PM schedules to ensure timely inspections and services for over-the-road trucks and trailers.Truck Inspections:Perform basic inspections of critical components like brakes (including ABS), steering, multi-axle alignments, hydraulic systems, and electrical components to ensure everything is functioning properly.Use diagnostic tools to identify potential issues, and report findings to supervisors or senior technicians.Repairs and Replacements:Diagnose issues and perform repairs on mechanical and electrical systems as needed.Replace worn or damaged parts, including brake systems, electrical components, steering systems, and other essential truck systems.Welding and Fabrication:Assist with welding and fabrication work, including steel and aluminum components, to repair or modify parts when necessary.Work Independently and Collaborate:Work autonomously to complete assigned tasks while being part of a collaborative team.Seek guidance from more experienced technicians when dealing with more complex repairs or troubleshooting.Maintain Documentation:Accurately document maintenance activities, repairs, parts used, and labor hours for future reference and compliance.Ensure all work is logged in accordance with ATS standards.Required Skills & Qualifications:Basic Mechanical Knowledge: Familiarity with diesel engines, brake systems, steering, and electrical components is a plus, but on-the-job training is provided.Problem-Solving Ability: Strong troubleshooting skills to diagnose mechanical and electrical issues.Tool Proficiency: Comfort with hand tools, diagnostic tools, welding equipment, and other shop tools.Attention to Detail: Ability to follow detailed instructions and standards to ensure quality and safety.Self-Motivated: Ability to work independently and manage time effectively while ensuring high-quality results.Team-Oriented: Ability to collaborate with others and contribute to a positive work environment.Training & Development:ATS provides hands-on training to ensure you become proficient in maintaining a variety of truck and trailer systems.Opportunity to grow within the company and develop specialized skills in areas like welding/fabrication, multi-axle alignments, and advanced diagnostics.Why Join ATS?Growing Fleet: ATS’s fleet of over-the-road trucks and trailers is expanding, offering more opportunities for skill development and advancement.Team Environment: You’ll work alongside experienced technicians who are dedicated to providing quality service and supporting each other’s growth.Career Growth: This position is an entry-level role, with the potential for career advancement as you develop expertise and take on more responsibility.This role offers a great start to a career in diesel mechanics, providing valuable experience and the chance to learn from skilled professionals. Job description:
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesPerform most necessary/scheduled preventative maintenance services e.g., oil and grease, air filters, fuel filters, power steering lube and filters…etc. that align with the technician’s skill level.Check tire pressures and inflate to specifications or change as needed.Grease entire chassis and report any deficiencies as needed.Fill out inspection sheets and enter in work discoveries as needed.Work with the Service Leaders and Tractor Trainer to become trained on performing the various types of ATS Preventive Maintenance (PMB PMQ and PMI) over a period of time to be able to inspect trucks to ATS standards.Maintains a clean and professional work environment including tools, equipment, and shop to high appearance standards.Ensure safety procedures are implemented and followed and PPE is used at all times.Be able to meet level 3 standard time rating (85% +) after 1 year of employment.Be able to meet level 3 rework frequency (<=3 per year) after 1 year of employment.Be able to meet level 3 Quality Assurance Performance (90-95%) after 1 year of employment.ATS will provide tools for up to 1 year after which the tech will purchase their own tools. ATS will provide specialty tools to perform functions of the job.Meet all ATS and department objectives and deadlines.Follow all ATS and department policies and procedures.Function consistently, effectively and reliably in accordance with the Company’s values as set forth in our core competencies and behaviors to foster ATS’s culture (All Employee Competencies).Complete work responsibilities outside of normal business hours as needed and infrequent travel may be required.Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.Physical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential function of this job.
